The morning commute was, as always, a battle. The traffic, the cramped bus, the jostling crowds. By the time Mark reached the office, a headache was already forming. He had a mountain of tasks awaiting him. He felt the weight of them.

He overheard a conversation between two coworkers. “Did you hear about the new grads? They're starting higher than I am!” The words hit him like a physical blow. The younger workers’ salaries made his own position seem insignificant.

He tried to focus on his work, but his mind kept wandering, replaying the conversation. The tasks felt meaningless, the deadlines irrelevant. The world seemed to be closing in around him. He felt a profound sense of… weariness.
